Adivasi-dalit-fishworker
nexus....
Thiruvananthapuram
: The adivasis have lost their dwelling place - the forests.
The dalits too have lost their land. The fish workers are
losing the sea and the land they live in. None of these three
groups actively participate in political decisions. The forces
of globalisation are eroding their livelihoods. To jointly
agitate against the forces rallying against them, these three
groups of people organised a meeting on December 10, 11, 12
at Ernakulam.
It was inaugurated
by the Director of Indian Social Institute (Bangalore), Dr.
Mathew Erthiyil. Dr. Michael Tharakan spoke on 'Dalit-Adivasi-Fish
Worker History and Culture'; CR Bijoy spoke on the need for
unity among these three groups of people. The meeting called
for the unity of the three communities of people and to preserve
the forests, the sea and the sea shore.
