Fish
Vendor's Issue. . . .
Traditionally, women of the fishing community carry fish on
their heads in baskets and often have to travel long distances to the markets.
This involved long hours away from home and most women could
return home only very late at night. This meant undue pressure
on child-caring and in other responsibilities. Considering
these aspects, the Federation demanded Transport
Facilities for these women and launched an agitation
for the same. After a series of agitations, in
1981, the State Government sanctioned a special bus service
for women fish vendors. This service continues
to this day and is considered as one of the significant achievements
of the Federation.
